PACHA TRIBU COLLECTIVE

meet samantha & jorge

I have been long time friends with Samantha for many years now. About a year ago she met Jorge, another nomadic traveler like herself, and they both teamed up and started traveling and creating jewelry along the way together. They are such beautiful souls who gather inspiration from the world around them. It has been so amazing watching their collection grow.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Sam: I grew up in Florida - Jorge: I'm from Caracas, Venezuela.

HOW DID YOU START CREATING JEWELRY?

Sam: I've always been a creator. I started young, always making my family Christmas presents, decorations for my room, and little trinkets. After High School I began to make jewelry for myself and knew it was something I would really like to do in the long run. I didn't know much about technique at the time, and Pinterest wasn't popular yet (haha), so I really just invented with whatever material I could get my hands on. I am really drawn to stones and their healing powers, I think that is the primary reason that I really wanted to create jewelry specifically. I met Jorge in the beginning of 2014 and have learned so much from him in the past year, with his teachings I have been able to bring my ideas to life and successfully create lasting pieces that I am proud of.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING WITH YOUR HANDS?

Sam: Working with my hands let's me be in control, with my intuition as my guide! It's really amazing using your body, your natural talent and the universe's help to create these beautiful, real life objects that started out as a thought in your mind. Creating with your hands to me is the true definition of manifestation- you are literally making your dreams come alive.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Sam: I feel like its so typical to say "I get inspiration from everywhere" but it is so true! I have been traveling on and off for about 4 years now- so that is a HUGE part of my inspiration. I've stayed within the Americas- so the indigenous cultures I've come across with their brightly colored textiles and ridiculously detailed artisania has been all around me, and has definitely influenced my style. Traveling is amazing  because you meet so many other artisans too, and share ideas. I'm very inspired by my friends and their work! and now I have the most sacred little being as my biggest inspiration. Having a baby pushes you to want to do better and I think that shows through your work. Pregnancy and having a baby really brings out your creativeness too- very open sacral chakra ; )

DO YOU EVER CO-CREATE TOGETHER? IF SO, WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION FOR CO-CREATION?

Sam: We co-create all the time! Jorge is much better at working with wire than I am, and I am better at weavings and those kinds of things. Sometimes I will make an earring with woven string and then he will add the metal work and the finishing touches. We also have a VERY different style so we really compliment each other while working. He is more of a technical person while I think I bring a modern bohemian style. We will both sit down together and start working on our things, so we are constantly giving each other pointers and advice on which direction to go in.

WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO TRAVEL & SELL?

Sam: Mexico is the first place I've sold my own jewelry and where I had my baby Ixchel! I owe a lot to this beautiful land. I've loved selling and working here. However I really would like to be able to work a little bit in the states and in Jacksonville. It would be fun to show my community there my work and how I've grown. I would also like to go back to Peru and explore more of South America- it is my favorite country so far. But then there is also Asia, Africa and the rest of the WORLD! Jorge and I have a never ending list of where we want to go, and literally change our plans as to where we will go next weekly.
